Regional Electricity Rate Increase Starts in June
Starting in June 2025, your electric bill may reflect higher charges—even if your usage doesn’t change. This increase is tied to regional capacity prices set by PJM, the organization that manages the electric grid for 13 states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Each year, PJM, a federally regulated Regional Transmission Organization (RTO)—holds a capacity auction to secure the power generation needed to meet future electricity demand. Power generators submit bids to be available three years in advance, and PJM selects enough supply to maintain grid reliability during high-demand periods like heatwaves or cold snaps.
In the most recent auction held in June 2024 for the June 2025–May 2026 delivery period, capacity prices increased. This reflects broader trends, including growing electricity demand from large-scale users like data centers and a slower pace of new power plant development.
While NEP doesn’t control these market dynamics, we’re here to make your utility experience as simple and transparent as possible—through clear bills, helpful usage tools, and responsive resident support.
Every Day is Earth Day in NEP Communities
Earth Month is the perfect time to reflect on how everyday choices affect the planet. In NEP-served communities, sustainable living is already built in. That’s because your property has invested in, and receives 100% carbon-free electricity, so the energy you use at home has a cleaner footprint from the start.
Carbon-free electricity includes sources like wind, solar, and nuclear—each one helping reduce emissions that contribute to climate change. And while NEP doesn’t produce power, we measure your usage with advanced submetering and make sure your bill reflects that carbon-free supply.
It means lower emissions, greater transparency, and no extra effort on your part. You’re already making an impact, just by living in a community prioritizing smarter systems and cleaner energy.
